Spriggan (Japanese: スプリガン, Hepburn: Supurigan ) (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese manga series written past Hiroshi Takashige and illustrated past Ryōji Minagawa. It was serialized in Shogakukan's shōnen manga magazines Weekly Shōnen Sunday and Shōnen Sunday Zōkan from 1989 to 1996, with its capacity nerveless in 11 tankōbon volumes. In Northward America, the manga was kickoff licensed by Viz Media, under the title Striker ; it was serialized in Manga Vizion and only 3 volumes were released in the late '90s. The manga has been licensed past Vii Seas Entertainment, with its original championship, in 2022.

Spriggan takes place in the terminal years of the Cold War where mysterious and unknown artifacts called out-of-place artifacts (OOPArt) are discovered in diverse parts of the world, leading to a secret war between various forces against the ARCAM Corporation, an organization that placed itself the guardians of the OOPArts in order to forbid them from being used as weapons.

The manga was adapted into an anime film past Studio 4°C in 1998. A PlayStation game called Spriggan: Lunar Poetry was also based on the manga with some textile created for the game. An original cyberspace animation (ONA) anime series adaptation by David Production is scheduled for a 2022 premiere on Netflix.

Plot [edit]

Many years ago, an ancient culture known for their advanced technology once ruled World, merely were destroyed in the end by their misuse. Then, they left messages for later on generations in the form of indestructible bulletin plates written in ancient Hebrew, informing them that if they could not find a good apply for their creations, they should be destroyed.

Diverse paramilitaries, national armies, and armed private forces began to secretly search for these "mysterious artifacts" in order to be used for their own good and against their enemies. The ARCAM Corporation and their military arm, the ARCAM Private Army, can stop these forces from destroying themselves with their elite secret agents known as Spriggans (or Strikers).

Written past Hiroshi Takashige and illustrated by Ryōji Minagawa, Spriggan was first serialized in Shogakukan shōnen manga mag Weekly Shōnen Lord's day from February 22 to Dec vi, 1989.[two] [iii] [four] The manga was then transferred to Shōnen Sunday Zōkan (renamed Shōnen Dominicus Super in 1995), where it ran from August fifteen, 1992, to February 5, 1996.[5] [half dozen] [ii] Eleven tankōbon volumes were released from June 18, 1991,[7] to June xviii, 1996,[viii] with reprints in both 2001 and 2006 (including the unpublished stories "First Mission" and "Gold Rush").[9] [x] [11]

In North America, the serial was first licensed by Viz Media, under the title Striker, and serialized in Manga Vizion.[12] Three volumes were published from November 5, 1998,[thirteen] to May 6, 1999,[14] before the company curtailed further translation.[15] In February 2022, Seven Seas Entertainment appear they acquired the rights to publish the series in English, with its original title.[16] [17]

In Europe, 2 volumes were published in France and in French-speaking countries and territories by Glénat nether the name Striker [18] [19] in kingdom of the netherlands past Big Balloon, eleven volumes in Frg by Planet Manga,[twenty] and 3 full volume in Espana and in Spanish-speaking territories and countries by Planeta DeAgostini in 1993 followed past a reprint from 1996 to 1997[21] with some other reprint announced on July 15, 2021 via its Spanish Twitter business relationship.[22] Together with Ranma ½, it was the first manga published in Portugal, past Texto Editora in 1995.[23]

In Asia, the manga was released in Hong Kong by Jade Dynasty,[24] in Indonesia by Elex Media Komputindo,[25] in Malaysia as office of an installment in a fortnightly comic mag, Komik Remaja (simply was cancelled during the Noah'southward Ark story arc due to 'inappropriate religious elements'), in Singapore with all 11 volumes fully translated by Chuang Yi in English,[26] in South Korea by Daiwon C.I. with the first 11 volumes followed by the 8 book bunkoban[27] [28] and in Taiwan equally 11 full capacity translated into Standard mandarin by Tong Li Comics under the Youth Comic series label.[29] [30]

Movie [edit]

A film adaptation of the manga, using the Noah's Ark story, was produced by Studio 4°C[40] and distributed in Japanese cinemas past Toho. The moving-picture show was directed and story boarded by Hirotsugu Kawasaki,[41] written by Kawasaki and Yasutaka Itō,[41] and supervised by Katsuhiro Otomo.[42] Hiroshi Takashige and Ryoji Minagawa had a hand in assisting the manager through production. The film was distributed in Hong Kong and some other Asian countries under Neovision[49] and released in Taiwan by Proware Multimedia International.[50] In Europe, it was produced in German past Anime Connection of Germany,[51] in Russian by MC Entertainment,[52] in Dutch past Dybex,[53] Italian by Dynit,[54] in Polish by IDG[55] and in Swedish by Sandrew Metronome.[49]
